Digital Innovations in Agriculture: Leveraging IT for Sustainable Farm Management
摘要
Transformation in the agriculture sector through information technology (IT) has significantly transformed the agriculture sector in order to address the urgent need for optimum utilization of resources and food security. This paper analyses various IT applications in agriculture management in four major themes: precision farming, data analytics, supply chain optimization, and decision support systems. Leveraging advanced technologies like GPS and IoT sensors, precision farming is focused on the real-time monitoring of crop health and soil conditions, thus providing greater efficiency and reducing resource wastage. It helps farmers make informed decisions with the help of data analytics, in this case, over historical and real-time data that sets new levels of enhancing their prediction of yield and optimal planting strategies. In addition, through IT solutions, supply chain optimization helps in moving products from farms to markets on time, thereby reducing spoilage and enhancing traceability. Despite this, there are various challenges, including deficiencies in infrastructure, high costs of implementation, and security and privacy concerns related to using the data, among many others. Furthermore, the paper addresses future trends with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and blockchain, which are opening doors for even further tremendous alteration of agricultural management practices. Such innovations are necessary in light of this increased global food demand while sustaining agricultural practices. The paper emphasizes that investment in technology and training needs to be continued so that the agricultural sector can effectively utilize IT to achieve better efficiency, sustainability, and resilience against future adversity.
