Since 2015, various local governments and companies have been holding Future Design (FD) workshops, but what are these implementations based on? As shown in the introduction of practices in Chaps. 6 and 8 , numerous laboratory and field experiments have been conducted behind these practices. For example, the foundation for the first practice in Yahaba Town described in Chap. 6 was the experimental results of Kamijo et al. (2017). Behind the various practices in Chap. 8 , experiments have also been conducted. The emphasis on experiments is because we cannot implement practices based on overly simplified theories or researchers’ mere ideas. Additionally, in FD, we adopt a scientific methodology based on a spiral structure where we conduct experiments based on theory, apply the results to practice, and further reflect the outcomes of practice back into theory and experiments.
