We have examined how the Iroquois Mechanism and the Accountability Mechanism can function to avoid future failures. Are there any other mechanisms that could work? For example, mechanisms such as giving voting rights to babies and children with parents voting by proxy (Demeny voting) or considering the future by setting aside who one is (veil of ignorance) have been proposed. In this chapter, we will unfortunately show that these mechanisms do not function very well. However, demonstrating why mechanisms that don’t work well fail to do so is also an important mission of Future Design research.
