A Conceptual Framework for Designing User-Centric and Responsive Digital Experiences in the Built Environment
摘要
This paper introduces a novel conceptual framework for designing user-centric and responsive digital experiences in cultural institutions. Although digital displays are widely used in exhibitions, the lack of research guiding their effective integration into the physical space often leads to disconnected, less immersive experiences for visitors. Our framework addresses this gap by expanding the boundary of traditional spatial design to seamlessly incorporate digital displays, focusing on the dynamic interplay between content, space, and visitors. It examines experiences across three dimensions: content-space, visitor-content, and space-visitor. These experiences aim to fulfill the core objectives of cultural institutions: educating, entertaining, providing escapism, and delivering aesthetic pleasure while incorporating four experiential layers enabled by advanced digital technologies: immersive, interactive, contextual, and integrative. This comprehensive approach of merging institutional goals with the possibilities afforded by digital technologies establishes a new standard for designing digital experiences in cultural institutions. Our conceptual framework will provide a valuable tool for curators and spatial designers seeking to create meaningful visitor experiences suited to the digital age.
