This study investigates the potential of using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and energy analysis tools to optimize the energy efficiency of multifamily residential buildings in Kabul, Afghanistan. The early design stage is critical, as key decisions made during this phase significantly enhance energy efficiency. By employing BIM and energy analysis tools, architects and engineers can evaluate various design scenarios and explore high-standard, energy-efficient materials to optimize energy consumption and promote environmental sustainability. This research utilizes BIM and Insight 360 energy analysis tools to analyze energy and cost optimization for a case study of a multifamily residential building in Kabul. The analysis demonstrates that applying different design scenarios and altering construction materials in the early design stage can substantially improve energy usage, measured in terms of Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and cost in USD/m2/year. The results indicate that integrating BIM and energy analysis tools significantly enhance energy efficiency in residential buildings, contributing to more sustainable construction practices and promoting environmentally friendly designs.
