Religion, Spirituality, and Suicidal Behavior
摘要
A review of research on the impact of religion and spirituality on suicidal behavior clearly shows that, in most countries, religiosity and religious homogeneity reduce suicidal behavior both at the societal level and for individuals. However, countries with different majority religions also differ in social and economic ways which makes interpretation of the differences in suicide rates difficult. There are exceptions in countries where religion is not in line with government policies. Intrinsic religiosity (e.g., adherence to beliefs, and the practice of religious rituals) is more of a protective factor against suicidality than extrinsic religiosity (e.g., the side benefits of social interaction).
