Suicide is a global public health challenge with multifactorial risk factors. Along with psychiatric risk factors, socio-politico-environmental factors affect suicidal behavior among general populations. Protest suicide is a rare type of suicide attributed to socio-politico-environmental issues like war, oppression, and human rights violations which first noted on June 11, 1963. War protest suicide is an extremely rare and special form of suicide noted protesting the Vietnam and Israel-Palestine wars. So far, it has been noted in the Western countries and considered as a Western Phenomenon. Based on Durkheim’s category, war protest suicide is considered as an altruistic form of suicide. The classic war protest suicide reveals adult male without an identified mental disorder, suicide by self-burning at important public places showing their disapproval of war and appealing for change. This chapter discusses the dimensions of protest suicide with special consideration for war protest suicide.
