One of the contributing factors to suicidal behavior is politics. This essay will examine the political aspects of suicide and how the national and local political climate impacts suicide rates, including voting preferences, conservative versus liberal governments, the role of colonialism, and the impact of armed conflict and civil war. A social justice-oriented political approach may prevent suicide and, certainly, liberal governments can formulate national strategies for suicide prevention.
