This concluding chapter summarises the six case studies to discuss insights into and the implications of the interplay of power, knowledge, and communication in Korean placemaking governance. Korea's power structure has shifted from a traditional hierarchy under military dictatorship to a more diversified arrangement as a democracy. Entrepreneurial local governments and strengthened partnerships have emerged, yet the national government retains significant influence, complicating communication processes in placemaking. In Asian hierarchical contexts, such as placemaking governance, “thick communication,” provides a multidimensional framework that extends beyond verbal exchanges to include non-verbal, indirect, and intentional non-communication. This concept captures the layered ways actors navigate power relations and relational networks. The chapter also recommends exploring reflexive communication as avenue to practical, sustainable, and more equitable placemaking.
