Endophytic fungi are present in most, if not all, of the plant species on Earth. By means of this relationship, they settle inside plant tissues without exhibiting any symptoms, which benefits the host plant as well as themselves. In recent years, the issue of creating more sustainable agriculture has drawn attention from all around the world. To better understand ecology and investigate the possible function of entophytic interactions in plant development, research has been conducted. The benefits of endophytic colonisation have been extensively studied up to now. This review gathers these studies based on the direct (acquired nutrients and phytohormone production) and indirect (induced resistance, antibiotic and secondary metabolite production, siderophore production, and defence against biotic and abiotic stresses) benefits of entophytic colonisation.
