Analysis of Barriers in Upskilling Educators on Emerging Technologies
摘要
In the age marked by swift technological advancements, all industries across nations are presented with unprecedented challenges. Emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, IoT, drones, robotics, quantum computing etc. are transforming businesses and culture globally. These powerful technologies present immense opportunities for developing self-reliant nations and sustainable economic growth models through the strategic adoption and application of emerging technologies. The education sector plays a vital role in this, as it promises to produce industry ready youth. The education industry, however, is facing challenges in addressing this issue due to some significant gaps in terms of a lack of practical knowledge about real time conditions, the nonexistence of a socio-technical environment, ethics, dynamism in making policies, and regulations related to new technologies. Educating students about the latest developments in emerging technologies and their applications calls for fully skilled faculty. The pedagogical methods also need a complete overhaul. Classes remain focused on theoretical knowledge, especially in smaller and remote areas, with insufficient hands-on projects, practical tool training, and real-world problem-solving. This paper aims to explore the existing skill gaps in emerging technologies with respect to training and education for the future generation and the barriers in bridging the gap in terms of qualified educators in emerging technologies and based on gap analysis propose strategies to overcome the barriers.
