The transformative potential of blockchain technology for health information exchange (HIE) and how it can improve data interoperability, security, and patient-driven care. It deals with the direct problems faced in HIE which includes data fragmentation, lack of standard formats, and finally security risks associated. Its distributed and immutable nature provides solutions that healthcare providers could use for secure patient information sharing across multiple entities. The use of consensus-based recording, blockchain ensures data integrity while avoiding unauthorized access and support patient-centered control over their medical records. It also examines the potential of blockchain in the management of electronic medical records (EMRs), drug supply chain, or monitoring patients at a distance. In addition, it presents important legal and ethical issues that are necessary for the diffusion of the technology, for example data protection legislation and consent management. However inviting the prospects of blockchain may seem, its integration is fraught with technical and operational challenges that need to be bridged with personal from healthcare, regulation, and technology. Eventually, it describes blockchain as an important enabler in building advanced, cost effective, and interoperable HIE systems for healthcare while protecting patients’ rights.
