Vietnamese Curriculum Development in Schools: The Role of the Teachers

This chapter presents the theoretical basis of the curriculum, curriculum development, school education curriculum development process, and experience in developing educational curricula in some countries. The process of developing a school education curriculum proposed in this chapter includes four steps: context analysis, curriculum development, curriculum implementation, and curriculum evaluation. The content of this chapter also focuses on analyzing the scientific and practical basis and difficulties and challenges in developing school education curricula in schools. As a result, the authors analyze the basic content of the school education program and the key role of teachers in educational curriculum development activities. Simultaneously, the authors also mention approaches to school education curriculum management and some solutions to innovate school education curricula such as giving high autonomy to teachers in curriculum development and fostering and improving curriculum development competence for teachers. Finally, the authors present guidance for teachers and administrators in developing school education curricula to meet the renovation requirements of general education curricula and local education programs.
