摘要

Game-based learning (GBL) offers a promising approach to enhancing education by leveraging the engaging nature of digital games. This chapter explores GBL through a neuroscientific lens, examining how digital gameplay impacts cognitive and educational development. Digital game use among learners, particularly in Asian countries like Singapore, China, South Korea, and Japan, has risen significantly, demonstrating high levels of engagement. While concerns about screen time persist, this chapter argues that digital games can be powerful tools for learning and cognitive enhancement. The authors investigate the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying gameplay, including neural activation, cognitive flexibility, and brain plasticity. Understanding these processes is crucial for optimizing GBL design and implementation to maximize learning outcomes for diverse learners. This chapter provides insights into the neuroscientific foundations of GBL, its cognitive benefits, educational applications, ethical considerations, and future directions, aiming to inform educators, policymakers, and game designers in developing effective and engaging learning experiences.
