摘要

Teacher collaboration is a conventional core part of the professional learning approach in China. Teachers are expected to participate actively in collaborative research and lesson study groups. These groups meet regularly to review lesson plans, teaching practices, student learning data, and evaluate the impact on students. Teachers’ participation in collaborative and lesson study groups are instrumental in developing a culture of collaboration and continuous learning among teachers in Chinese schools. School principals in China play a critical role in nurturing a positive teacher learning culture. School principals in Shanghai were found to redesign school systems to enhance teacher collaborative learning, continuous improvement, and innovation opportunities. However, despite strong and systemic efforts into instructional activities and Chinese students’ high performance in international assessments, students in China face unprecedented stress and emotional challenges due to high academic demands and competition. This chapter offers an update-to-date trend analysis of school leadership and teachers collaboration strategies in Shanghai. This analysis considers China’s “Double-Reduction” policy as a reform context, which aims to lessen the workload and extracurricular burden on students in compulsory education. This chapter sheds light on how school leaders support teachers in working collaboratively, fostering both student well-being and academic achievements. It also discusses the implications of the policy reform for school leadership and teacher collaboration practices in Shanghai.
