Game-Based Learning in the Philippines: A Learning Sciences Initiative
摘要
Learning sciences research in the Philippines remains relatively limited, presenting a significant opportunity to gain insights into Filipino learners’ behaviors and characteristics. This chapter focuses on the deployment of Physics Playground and Minecraft as part of an initiative to introduce and explore game-based learning environments among teachers and students. Data from interaction logs was analyzed to understand key phenomena such as persistence, carefulness, frustration, engagement, and the incubation effect. The findings provide valuable input for developing instructional strategies. However, several barriers such as the digital divide and lack of teacher training, hinder the adoption of these findings in classroom practice. This chapter will conclude by discussing the challenges to and opportunities for integrating computer-based learning and learning sciences research into the Philippine education system.
