In this chapter, we delve into the intersection of learning sciences and assessment policies and practices in the East Asian context. The focus is on the evolution of assessment systems in East Asia, exploring the integration of cognitive science, educational neuroscience, learning technology, and learning analytics. The effectiveness of these integrations in creating learner-centered environments and promoting deeper cognitive and metacognitive engagement is examined, along with the unique challenges of implementing these science-based practices within the sociocultural and educational contexts of East Asia. Furthermore, the chapter concludes with a discussion of ongoing efforts and future directions for policy reform, offering valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance education quality in East Asia.
