A New Paradigm in the Era of AI: Developing a Proactive Learning Success Framework for Personalized Learning

Education has evolved alongside industrial revolutions and is continuously adapting to social and technological changes. As human society enters the Fourth Industrial Revolution, education is transforming into the Education 4.0 era. This era demands an urgent shift toward a new educational paradigm; thus this study proposes a Learning Success framework. Learning Success is characterized by three core principles: learner centeredness, proactivity, and personalization. Extending this framework, this chapter introduces a structure designed to promote deeper, more effective learning experiences. The framework is grounded in data mining, behavioral prediction, and pattern analysis, enabling a data-driven approach to support learner achievement. To demonstrate its effectiveness, two practical cases are presented. In the first case, by analyzing educational content and student reading logs, a page-jumping recommendation plugin was designed to help learners locate the information they require more efficiently, thereby enhancing their backtracking behavior and supporting deeper reading engagement. The second case explores personalized, GenAI-based material generation, which dynamically adjusts content and difficulty levels according to learners’ abilities. Supported by a virtual AI tutor, the system encourages proactive engagement and helps learners remain within their optimal challenge zone. Finally, the chapter discusses the theoretical implications and practical challenges of implementing the Learning Success framework.
