In this chapter we critically examine the intersection between the Kurdistan Region in Iraq’s (KRI’s) health governance and healthcare quality issues. The spotlight is on key aspects of healthcare quality, particularly in the areas of safety practices, clinical effectiveness, resource allocation, and patient-centred care. This chapter starts by critically examining the impact of the KRI’s health system governance on the existing patient safety failures. It then examines the ways in which poor governance has resulted in inconsistent use of electronic health records, non-accredited healthcare providers, ineffective allocation of healthcare resources, disengaged doctor-patient dynamic, and denial of patient’s rights to request redress.
