While tourism is an integral part of regional development, unplanned development affects the natural setup and affects the recovery capacities of the ecosystem. The carrying capacity becomes inevitable component for planning of tourist destination and to evaluate impact of tourism. It represents an important component in establishing the standards for sustainable tourism. The Yuksom-Dzongri-Goechha La trekking corridor is the most popular destination for adventure (trekking and mountaineering) and nature tourism in the eastern Himalayan region situated within the Kanchendzonga National Park, UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. For sustainable tourism, a computed result on the effective real carrying capacity at Dzongri peak is found to be 64 visitors per day, whereas the physical carrying capacity is calculated to be 96 visitors per day during the peak season, i.e., with respect to the months, of March–May and September–November. The paper also includes a SWOT assessment of the tourist site; as tourism to parks and protected areas continues to grow; effective planning and management of tourism become absolutely critical to ensure the environmental sustainability of the tourist destination.
