Safety in the construction industry is assessed by means of indicators that are based on regulations and standards, such as reportable accidents, lost time injuries and number of safety inspections, among others. When a workplace is a high-risk one, such as bridge construction (long span), serious consideration should be given to safety as there exists the potential for the occurrence of disastrous accidents. The level of safety compliance implemented within the various bridge construction projects depends on the nature of the project and the nature of the work being performed. There does not exist a standardized framework or system that is used to implement safety in long span bridge construction projects. An effective and comprehensive safety framework can help to improve the general construction safety practices in long span bridge construction project management. The research implements the use of a questionnaire together with interviews and expert reviews to establish a comprehensive outcome. The main factors that were found to affect the safety are worker involvement, material, equipment, and workplace factors. The framework was established to address all these issues and propose solutions to reduce their frequency.

摘要
