Blockchain-Based Patient Record Maintenance System

As the population increases and advancements in various fields, including that of medicine, takes giant strides, new issues emerge, which require prompt and optimal resolution to aid development. The health sector deals with a huge volume of data every day. In recent times, medical record-keeping has emerged as an evolving science and rightly so, as it is crucial for optimal health management. Our work proposes a system based on blockchain for efficiently maintaining and sharing records while ensuring confidentiality and integrity. We have employed blockchain technology and Interplanetary File System (IPFS) to create a distributed peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol. IPFS seeks to increase the speed, security, and openness of the internet. To ensure data integrity, it makes use of a content-addressable system, in which files are addressed by their cryptographic hashes. Data integrity is guaranteed by the decentralized and tamper-evident nature of blockchain technology, and information may be retrieved and reviewed by authorized individuals through limited access procedures. Smart contracts have been employed to grant and revoke access to various users.
