Our research aims to detect early caries lesions from colored dental images. The initial phase involves segmenting the dental region from these images, which often include non-uniform background elements such as tissues, gums, and parts of the face, lips, and tongue. We begin by extracting the dental region from the background, focusing specifically on the incisors (front teeth)Incisors. After segmenting the entire dental region, individual teeth are isolated, and caries lesions are identified if present. Consultations with dentists revealed that the incidence of caries is lower in incisor teeth compared to molar and premolar teeth. Therefore, in the next phase, our segmentation work concentrates on molar and premolar teeth. We extract these teeth from the non-uniform background and then segment each tooth individually. Finally, the areas of caries lesions are segmented. This chapter is detailed step-by-step in the following subsections.

Finally, the areas of caries lesions are segmented. This chapter is detailed step-by-step in the following subsections.
