Designing and Implementing a Blockchain Course in Software Engineering Curricula: A Teacher’s Perspective

This article describes the challenges and initial results associated with the design and implementation of a university course on Blockchain technology. In this work, we focus on the development of the course with the following question in mind: How can a Blockchain technology course be designed and implemented in a Software Engineering degree program? We explore these challenges from the perspective of teachers, focusing on the integration of blockchain education into undergraduate studies to ensure that students acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Blockchain is one of the most disruptive technologies of the last decade, and its rapid development and constant evolution require academia to keep course curricula updated to meet market demands and stay current with state-of-the-art technologies. Future professionals in Software Engineering must add value to their projects beyond mere coding, which places pressure on educators and academic institutions to align their offerings with this new technology. In this context, we argue that Blockchain technology is a particularly complex topic, and educational institutions must provide the next generation of professionals with both comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of this technology.
