Simulation in Education and Training: From Virtual Reality to Digital Twins
摘要
The advent of Digital Twins, which blend technologies such as Mixed Reality, Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Cloud Computing (and its variations), is increasingly demonstrating its potential for application in numerous areas. By providing trustworthy simulations of real objects, processes, and systems based on real-time data, Digital Twins enable a wide range of applications. These applications include hypothesis testing, design and prototyping, process optimization, and training and skill development, among many others. This paper specifically explores the possibilities of applying Digital Twins in the field of education. It presents a comprehensive overview and a case study focused on the use of Digital Twins for operation, maintenance, and training purposes. The integration of these advanced technologies in educational settings can significantly enhance learning experiences and outcomes, making education more interactive and effective. Additionally, the use of Digital Twins can facilitate remote learning and provide students with hands-on experience in a virtual environment, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
