Open science and data management plans (DMPs) are fundamental for the scientific community, promoting transparency, accessibility, and reuse of research. Effective data management of research is crucial in this context. The DMPTool arise as a solution to facilitate the creation of DMPs, used by researchers and institutions globally, including in Latin America. However, there is a lack of academic work mapping its use in this region. This study aims to fill this gap by mapping the use of the DMPTool in Latin America through an exploratory search that resulted in the analysis of eleven plans, revealing data management practices in the region. The research explored the importance of open science, focusing on the transparency and reproducibility of scientific data. It emphasizes the crucial role of DMPs in the organization, documentation, and sharing of research data. The DMPTool is highlighted as a platform that assists in the creation of efficient DMPs, addressing data storage, privacy, and dissemination. The implementation of DMPs improves the reliability and validity of research and facilitates scientific collaboration. Additionally, the article examines open science in Latin America, highlighting challenges such as the lack of infrastructure and resources identified by DMPs. Proposed solutions include increased funding and training for researchers, aiming to promote a more open and collaborative scientific culture, benefiting both the global scientific community and society.
