Implicitly, most architects are supporters of the status quo when it to comes to prescriptive procedural theory. Several advocacies for systematizing the design process have, nevertheless, been presented by architects and researchers over the past six decades. Their major concern has been with developing evidence-based building programs and designs. Some architects argue that the design process should be more transparent as proposed in Christopher Alexander and his colleagues’ Pattern Language in the 1960s and 1970s. Advocacies also exists for the issues that should be of prime concern. They add to the complexity of building programs. Today, the employment of parametric design procedures and the development of Artificial Intelligence promises much in shaping the whole design process. The question of whose and what ends a design should serve remains. While all designs advocate the achievement of some ends over others, Advocacy Design focuses on meeting the needs of the underrepresented among the stakeholders affected by a design. Strong advocates for the use of charrettes propose new ways of conducting the design process.
