Architectural forms exist as environments and/or as objects. As environments they are places of being, as objects they are sculptures to contemplate. As environments they are behaviour settings that afford the fulfillment of people’s needs. The utility of specific patterns for individuals and groups of people depends on their physical and mental competencies and resources. Their appreciation of behaviour settings as activity sites and the milieu as sculptures also depends on their knowledge of the opportunities available to them as well as the costs and rewards, psychological or monetary of inhabiting or viewing a place.
