Superficial Structures in the Midfacial Region
摘要
The facial nerve branches do not always run on the same layer after exiting the parotid gland. The main zygomatic branch usually passes beneath the masseteric fascia anterior to the parotid gland. It is also an essential surgical point that the parotid gland should only be divided directly above the facial nerve branches to preserve them during the dissection of the parotid gland. The most superior buccal branch of the facial nerve appears adjacent to the parotid duct, running most likely inferior to and within 1 cm of the duct.
