Instapoetry is a poetic form that emerges from the intersection of poetry and Instagram. This research explores the transnational dynamics in the instapoetry community of Southeast Asia through an analysis of its poems and virtual interactions. Observation shows that while the instapoetry community in Southeast Asia is nascent, it holds potential for transnational collaboration in the region due to its shared poetic practice, themes, and cultural motifs. An adaptation of global instapoetic practices suggests a similar poetic practice that links nations within the Southeast Asian region. The similarity in approach to writing poetry on Instagram signals a potential for transnational creative collaboration in the region. Moreover, annual instapoetry events for Southeast Asian poets such as the Southeast Asia Poetry Writing Month or SEAPoWrimo substantiates the potential for cross-border collaboration. Despite this promising outlook, the region grapples with challenges rooted in the novelty of instapoetry as well as diverse sociopolitical configurations that may pose a hindrance to sustaining any cohesive community effort at a local and regional level. Ultimately, this research lays out the challenges, opportunities, and broader implications of the instapoetry community for transnational creative collaborations.
