Unmanned Surface Vehicle Platform Development and Path Following Control Considering Energy Consumption

In this paper, we describe the system of an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) experimental platform with path-following control considering energy consumption. The system integrates a navigation control system and path-following algorithms. The hardware part of the experimental platform includes hull design, dual propulsion system, sensor integration, and communication module. In addition, the current and voltage monitoring circuits are designed to monitor the energy consumption during path following. This is beneficial for studying energy-saving control methods. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed USV experimental platform. Moreover, the desired path can be tracked by the USV automatically with high precision.
