Chinese object control construction (OCC) with the surface structure of “NP1 + VP1 + NP2 + VP2” is one of the typical complex predicates. Constituency tests are adopted to examine the syntactic structure across languages while their efficacy is underinvestigated. This study aims to relatively exhaust Chinese object control verbs (OCVs), and compare the efficacy of constituency tests in examining the structure of OCC. We establish a sense-based OCC database where 864 OCCs are tested by 12 constituency tests respectively. The results of the insertions of zhe ‘marker of progressive aspect’, le ‘tense marker’ and guo ‘marker of perfective aspect’ after VP2s show that the complement of Chinese OCC can be finite. The results of the other nine constituency tests to check whether “VP1 + NP2” or “VP1 + NP2” is a constituent show that pause test and question test are stronger than coordination, substitution and assertive tests.

摘要
