The two information hiding techniques of cryptography and steganography are widely used for communicating secret information securely. Cryptography uses a key and an encryption algorithm to convert the secret information into a form called cipher data that is difficult to comprehend. This cipher data is converted back to the original format at the receiver end by using a decryption algorithm. Another way of hiding secret information securely is through steganography, which embeds the secret data in a cover medium. This chapter discusses deep learning architectures for image steganography.
