The chapter is dedicated to the discussion on family formation in the UAE as a case study of a GCC country. The average age of first marriage and first childbirth has been consistently increasing since the 1990s. Current Emirati families prefer their children to complete higher education before getting married. Many young women after university graduation opt for their first job and professional experience rather than childbirth. The social norm for the number of children in the families is considerably decreasing as well as the total fertility rate. Using available national statistical indicators and previous research outcomes authors provide analysis for the determinants of the total fertility rate and ideal number of children. Moreover, the chapter adds to the literature by application of the descriptive analysis of social norms among Emirati youth.
