Saudi Adolescents' Identity Development and Social Media Use: An Exploratory Study
摘要
This chapter examines identity development among Saudi adolescents aged 14 to 19 years who use social media platforms. It explores their common identity statuses and investigates how these identity statuses relate to their social media activities. Data were collected via a survey distributed on different social media platforms. The survey includes the dimensions of identity development scale (DIDS), questions assessing social media use, and demographic information. The survey drew responses from 1642 participants representing all 13 Saudi Arabia regions. The findings show that the majority of Saudi adolescents are in three identity statuses characterized by low commitments. However, no significant relationship is found between adolescents' activities on social media platforms and their identity statuses.
