The Role of Community Empowerment and Collaboration in Tourism Villages: A Case Study of Sumberbulu and Dongde Valley
摘要
This chapter investigates the role of community empowerment in two adjacent tourist villages, Sumberbulu and Dongde Valley, both located in the Mojogedang Karanganyar area. We aim to identify effective collaborations that can be implemented to foster village tourism in the region. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method, the research involved direct observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), and interviews with key figures from each village, including tourism village managers and members of Pokdarwis (tourism awareness groups). Findings reveal that targeted community empowerment, delivered through specialized training, significantly boosts local enthusiasm and confidence. In Sumberbulu, training focused on tour guiding, homestay management, and souvenir production. Meanwhile, Dongde Valley Tourism Village benefited from product innovation training for market readiness. This enhanced tourism awareness and improved service skills, enabling both communities to directly apply their new knowledge. The training led to healthy and beneficial collaborations. A notable example is the joint sale of tour packages: visitors can enjoy market tours in Dongde Valley while experiencing souvenir shopping and mortar entertainment in Sumberbulu. This collaborative approach leverages each village’s strengths, contributing to overall tourism development.
