Environmental conservation has long been a concern in tourism resource management literature. While many scholars have focused on the increasing socio-economic and cultural impacts of accruing resources, reviews in rural tourism literature have found less emphasis on sustainable strategies for using resources. With Bricolage approach underpinning this qualitative enquiry, the present chapter aims to address how tourism resources can be used to advance environmental conservation. Bricolage has been used in rural tourism entrepreneurship context to understand entrepreneurs’ behaviors in limited resource setting, yet rarely has been used to explore rural tourism resource management, especially in the context where there is an implemented mixed top-down and bottom-up rural tourism program, as in Indonesia. Using two villages in Bali as a case study and through a deductive-inductive thematic analysis, three strategies of Bricolage approach were identified in both village resource management, including: storytelling, up-purposing, and creative learning. Findings contributed to the understanding of Bricolage and resource utilization strategy within rural tourism setting in a mixed layer of governance system, while persistently aiming to promote environmental conservation. The practical implications lay within the implementation of these three strategies to further develop tourism village program (Desa Wisata) across Bali and Indonesia.
