Taro Village in Gianyar of Bali Towards a Green Tourism Village: The Model of Sustainable Tourism Village Development

Green tourism village is a tourism development concept which aims at integrating tourism activities with nature conservation and environmental sustainability. This concept offers a tourism experience which does not only please the eye with the beauty of nature, but also promotes responsibility for the environment and preservation of natural resources. Taro Village is a village located in Gianyar, one of residences in Bali. In its development, it has taken steps towards a green tourism village through a tight collaboration among the village government, the local community, and other stakeholders. This village has implemented various initiatives that support environmental sustainability to promote responsible tourism. The special attention of the Taro village community and government in preserving the environment shows a strong commitment in building a green tourism village. This research makes use of a qualitative approach that aims to find out the model for the development of a sustainable Taro tourism village destination which can be an example and inspiration for other tourism villages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, and were further examined using qualitative analysis techniques encompassing three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings were as follows: Concrete and obvious steps taken by Taro Village towards becoming a green tourism village include involving local communities in decision-making, tourism management, and nature conservation. Taro village also applies environmentally friendly practices in tourism activities, carries out efficient water management, recycles waste, and uses local products and organic materials to support local economic growth and reduce environmental impact. The people of Taro Village pay special and serious attention to nature conservation and protect the forest area with highly protected white oxen which are the historical heritage of the local community and have become the cultural identity of Taro village. Taro Village has shown a strong commitment to building a green tourism village and has become a model for developing a sustainable tourism village in Bali.
