General Information About Virtual Reality Headsets
摘要
This chapter presents general information about virtual reality (VR) headsets. It describes what they are and how they work. A virtual reality headset is a head-mounted display that creates a reality-based virtual environment. It includes software that allows individuals to interact with real or imaginary computer-simulated environments. These three-dimensional (3-D) experiences include both visual and auditory components. The headsets are used for VR video games, simulations, teaching purposes, and more. This chapter mentions a few benefits and limitations of VR headsets. It also presents and describes several studies in education showing that students who used the VR headsets had improvements in posttests, positive responses for the usefulness of the VR headsets, and experiences that were exciting, enjoyable, and motivating.
