Decentralized Digital Identity Solution Using Blockchain Technology and Encryption Algorithm

Decentralized digital identity solution holds significant importance in today’s digital landscape. With the increasing reliance on digital platforms and the need for secure data management, ensuring privacy and control over personal information has become crucial. This research addresses these concerns by leveraging blockchain technology, encryption algorithms, and decentralized storage to provide a secure and transparent data storage and sharing framework. This paper recognized the need for a solution that allows individuals to retain ownership of their data while streamlining the process of sharing information with authorized entities. We implemented a system where users can upload their personal identification documents, which are then encrypted using the keccak256 algorithm and stored on the Polygon network blockchain. This decentralized storage approach, coupled with the use of IPFS, ensures data availability, integrity, and censorship resistance. Additionally, we incorporated smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain to establish access control mechanisms, allowing users to grant or revoke permission for organizations to access their encrypted data. The outcome of this work is a robust and user-centric data storage and sharing system. Users can securely store their sensitive information on the blockchain, eliminating the need to provide details to different organizations repeatedly. Users maintain control over who can access their data by granting access to authorized entities through a permission-based system. The encryption of blocks and the decentralized nature of the system provide an additional layer of security, preventing unauthorized organizations from accessing or tampering with the data. Results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this approach in ensuring privacy, data integrity, and efficient data sharing within a trusted framework.
