Soil salinization is a significant challenge to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Global agriculture is increasingly affected by soil salinization due to poor irrigation practices, seawater intrusion, excessive use of chemical fertilizers, and natural causes. Substantial investments in research and innovation have been made in various countries to address the issue of soil salinization and to focus on reducing the impact. Biosaline agriculture involves growing halophytes and other suitable practices to enable sustained plant cultivation under saline or brackish water irrigation, development of salt-tolerant crop varieties, and soil reclamation and management practices. This chapter explores successful biosaline agriculture initiatives from various regions around the world, demonstrating the potential to transform saline and arid lands into productive agricultural areas. These success stories demonstrate that, with the right strategies, salinity can be switched from a hurdle into an opportunity for sustainable agricultural development, contributing to resilient food systems and sustainable management of natural resources amid changing environmental conditions.
