Phytodesalination is a biological approach of soil desalination based on plant’s ability to accumulate high sodium quantities. Sesuvium portulacastrum L., a euhalophyte that tolerates high salt concentrations in the soil, shows a promising ability to desalinate sodic and saline sodic soils. The aim of this chapter was to highlight S. portulacastrum properties that make it one of the most convenient species for phytodesalination programs. Some postharvest uses of this halophyte are also presented to promote its cultivation in sodic and saline sodic areas.
