Employees’ Perspective on Interplay of IT-based Banking & Sustainability
摘要
Technological innovations can have both positive as well as negative impact on sustainability. The banking and financial service organisations have been amongst the important sectors that have adopted digital technologies. With the rising calls for considering environmental sustainability in business practices, the banking organisations have been making prodigious efforts. This research explores the bank employees’ perspective of the interplay of IT-based banking and the sustainable initiatives undertaken by the banks. The research objectives include studying the various initiatives undertaken by the banking organisations to incorporate IT-oriented sustainable, i.e. environmental and social strategies, the barriers in their successful implementation, and the employees’ orientations towards their adoption and implementation. Based on a survey of 302 employees, the banks were found to be at early stages of implementing these practices into their strategic framework. Further, the results revealed that although several environmentally sustainable initiatives have been undertaken by the banks, there was a lack of effective incorporation of prevent/control strategy, sustainable development strategy, and policy-oriented initiatives; however, an effective incorporation of PC management was spotted. This research offers an outline of employees’ engagement and provides valuable insights to the bankers for leading the way to wide-ranging implementation and success of sustainable banking practices.
