Kenneth Parker, PhD, in Catholic Studies in Local, National, and International Perspective, provides an informed and personal reflection on Catholic studies initiatives when they began to appear in the United States on Catholic college and university campuses in the early 1990s. The author notes that the number of programs has proliferated over the last 3 decades. This chapter presents a narrative of the founding of the Catholic Studies Department at Duquesne University and the emergence of a National Consortium of Catholic Studies and a unique study abroad experience in Rome between the fall of 2020 and the academic year 2023–2024. It is a progress report, as Duquesne’s Catholic Studies Department, the Catholic Studies Consortium, and the Catholic Studies in Rome program grow and mature.
