This article briefly introduces the whaling history of the Nuu-chah-nulth, who reside on the western coast of Canada’s Vancouver Island, then examines the developments in whaling and the potential for the resumption of their whaling activities from the perspectives of indigenous rights and political-economic conditions. Taking the current social, economic, and political situations of the contemporary Nuu-chah-nulth people into consideration, I argue that it would be extremely difficult for them to resume whaling in the future without an investment of enormous effort.

摘要
