In this paper, we will discuss the role of the United Nations Group of Experts on the Standardization of Geographical Names in the naming of geographical names in general and its relationship with the International Astronomical Union in the naming/designation of extraterrestrial objects. Emphasizing the need for the reactivation of cooperation between these two organizations and also the need for the establishment of close collaboration between the Arabic Geographical Names Division of the UNGEGN and the two Specialized Groups respectively the Working Group on Small Body Nomenclature (WGSBN) and the Working Group on Planetary Systems Nomenclature. (WGPSN) of the UIA in charge of naming, thus promoting a better presence and visibility of names from the Arab world in the naming of extraterrestrial objects.

摘要

In this paper, we will discuss the role of the United Nations Group of Experts on the Standardization of Geographical Names in the naming of geographical names in general and its relationship with the International Astronomical Union in the naming/designation of extraterrestrial objects.
