In this study, a gas chromatographic method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 19 kinds of alcohol congeners such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, tert-butanol and so on in alcohol-based hand sanitizers for children through the optimization of pretreatment conditions as well as gas chromatographic conditions. The carrier gas was nitrogen with a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min coupled with temperature programming from 30 ℃ to 220 ℃. The analysis time was 35 min, and the internal standard method was used for quantification. Results indicate that all the analytes showed good linear relationship in the range of 80 mg/L–15000 mg/L, and the linear regression coefficients of the alcohol congeners were more than 0.996. The recoveries of the alcohol congeners ranged from 95.2% to 103.7%, and the precision was within 5%, which made the present study a strong reference for the determination of alcohol congeners in both alcohol-based hand sanitizers or other similar products.
