The extraction of data from the vertical profile of the local atmosphere concerning the raw water content might indicate adequate conditions for the occurrence of rain events. More specifically, the present work investigates the use of meteorological information related to vertical atmospheric profiles that allow estimating the precipitable water content employing the comparison between The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and radiosoundings. Though the first stage results showed a fair agreement between satellite and radiosounding data, there was a gap between the MODIS product and the radiosounding precipitable water information. In the second stage of the study, the different approaches used on precipitable water calculations from MODIS decreased statistically the gap between the results.

摘要
