Fluoride Removal by Ion-Exchange Resin: Adsorption Studies

The degree of the excessive fluoride problem in drinking water is still a major health concern. The sorptive removal capability of fluoride from water was examined using strong-base anion resins in this study. It was discovered that fluoride removal was high at natural pH as well as this could be enhanced by prolonging the contact time and increasing the adsorbent dosage. According to the Langmuir model, the resin's maximum sorption was 4.15 mg/g. The best fit model for explaining fluoride sorption at equilibrium was found to be the Langmuir model (r = 0.99), out of the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models examined. The effects of flow rate on a dynamic analysis of adsorption processes are substantial. It was determined that increasing the flow rate lowers the percentage of adsorption. In the following studies, adsorption experiments were performed at a flow rate of 15 ml/hour. The amount of fluoride removed was calculated to be 78%, which is tending to the highest adsorption capacity.
