Terahertz Communication—Bridging the Gap in the Next-Generation Wireless Systems
摘要
This chapter provides an in-depth analysis of terahertz (THz) communication, a burgeoning field poised to revolutionize next-generation wireless systems. It explores the untapped potential of the THz spectrum (0.1–10 THz), offering insights into its ability to support ultra-high data rates essential for applications like virtual reality, ultra-high-definition streaming, and complex scientific data transmissions. The chapter delves into the fundamental aspects of THz communication, including spectrum characteristics, wave propagation, and advanced modulation and coding techniques tailored for THz frequencies. This chapter addresses key technological challenges, such as the development of efficient transmitters and receivers, beamforming, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technologies, and accurate channel modeling. The chapter also highlights significant applications of THz communication in areas like wireless fiber optic networks, Internet of Things (IoT), and integration with existing wireless networks. Furthermore, it discusses future perspectives, including emerging research areas, standardization, and regulation, concluding that THz communication is an essential component of future wireless communication ecosystems.
